Cursed circuits #5: capacitance multiplier

A capacitance multiplier is a circuit that uses an operational amplifier and resistors to effectively increase capacitance, thereby reducing the cost of capacitors. The circuit works by having the operational amplifier follow the input signal voltage and using resistors to control the charging speed of the capacitor, making it charge n times slower than a traditional circuit, which is equivalent to charging a much larger capacitor.

I updated my note blog and improved the "random" feature. Now, when a user clicks the "random" button, it navigates to a new page that embeds JavaScript logic for all notes, and displays a "Randomizing..." prompt on load, adding fun to the user experience. Travel notes: PLDI Boulder

At the PLDI conference this June, I met many new friends and participated in interesting research discussions, especially at the EGRAPHS workshop. I had dinner with Aaron and Jacob, discussing various topics including Knuth-Bendix and Datalog. During the conference, I also took part in a "DIY e-graph" tutorial and collaborated with Yannis on implementing a linear scan, though I felt a bit lost during the process.

Today's lunch discussion mentioned that additional data does not always reduce the size of the confidence interval. From a Bayesian perspective, although new information generally reduces uncertainty about an estimate, in some cases—especially when the new data conflicts with the current prior—the posterior uncertainty may increase. Taking the binomial-beta model as an example, if the prior for the success probability parameter θ is a beta distribution, after observing successes, the posterior variance may under certain conditions be larger than the prior variance.

Why IBM bought Lotus

Amazon has been repeatedly accused of exploiting merchants on its platform, but has always denied any wrongdoing. When merchants sell products on Amazon, they are essentially exposing their operational data to Amazon, which could allow competitors to use this information. This shows that companies need to be cautious when using AI, so as not to expose internal data to third parties that may become competitors.

In investigating crashes caused by threads executing unloaded third-party DLLs, it was found that CcNamespace.dll may be the core of the related DLLs. By analyzing the list of recently unloaded DLLs, it can be inferred that CcNamespace.dll plays a key role among these DLLs, as its name differs slightly from others, possibly indicating it is the key to the entire DLL family. Midnight Train to Stockholm

I was recently summoned to a meeting in Stockholm, and although I have lived in Copenhagen for many years, I had never visited that city. Fable's judgment

In a Fireside Chat with the Claude Code team, Cat Wu and Thariq Shihipar suggested letting Fable and Opus decide their own working methods, especially in testing. To improve efficiency, they recommended using low-power models for smaller tasks and running them in sub-agents to save Fable tokens. Simon pointed out that major programming tasks should be handled by appropriate low-power models, while judgment-based work such as design and auditing should be left to the main model.
