Why has the display control panel pointer truncation bug gone unfixed for so long?
Some users' computer video drivers are too old, causing system crashes, even though the relevant vendors fixed the issue long ago. This is because computer manufacturers are responsible for certifying driver updates, typically certifying them within one to two years after product release, after which support may stop, leaving users with outdated drivers. The generic drivers provided by Microsoft and graphics card manufacturers have lower priority, so users' systems still rely on these outdated manufacturer-certified drivers.
Regular expression speed and error rates
Seven years ago, I wrote an article about using regular expressions to match diagnostic codes, and now I revisit its speed and error rate. Using regular expressions to match ICD-10 codes is significantly faster; test results show that regex search takes 18 milliseconds, while searching against a reference code list takes 386 seconds. Although regular expressions perform well in terms of error rate, the false positive rate can be high in certain contexts, especially in randomly generated text.
Digital Research's 1991 merger with Novell

Tech note: making your own V-I plots at home
While writing the book "The Secret Life of Circuits," the author collected about 290 original illustrations to provide authentic electrical characteristic data, including voltage-current (V-I) curves of semiconductor devices. To overcome the limitations of conventional oscilloscopes in recording tiny currents, the author used a benchtop multimeter and a pulse power supply, and by cooling the devices by immersing them in a non-conductive liquid, successfully captured currents ranging from microamps to nearly 2 amps.
